CASB delegation’s successful visit to Xi’an

A CASB delegation just concluded a successful visit to Xi’an and few other cities in Shaanxi Province.

On the morning of September 29th, the delegates attended a forum jointly sponsored by CASB and Northwest University titled International Economic Development Post Financial Crisis: Opportunities and Challenges. Li Daxi, Chairman of CASB, and Warren Sach, the Assistant Secretary of United Nations, each delivered a lecture and led the subsequent discussions. The forum was well received by the students, faculties and local entrepreneurs. Near the end of the forum, an award winning soprano and a member of the CASB delegation, Ms. Jiang Fang-Tao delighted and impressed the audience with her impromptu demonstration of lyric coloratura style and her wish to bring the science and art world together. This event marked an excellent start in the ongoing collaboration between CASB and Northwest University.

Dr. Man-Chung Tang, a member of the CASB delegation, is a world renowned authority on bridges, and he was awarded with the International Bridge Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering in Italy on September 22nd, right before he joined the delegation. CASB congratulated Dr. Tang for his great achievement.

Mr. Zhao Zhengyong, the Acting Governor of Shaanxi Province, met with the delegation on the morning of 30th, and had an interesting discussion with the delegation. He is very interested with some specific projects of CASB delegates.

Promoting culture exchange and bridging science with art have been long standing objectives of CASB. On this trip, the delegation attended the grand-opening of Daming Palace Relic Site. This event started with a pre-opening tour in the afternoon of 29th followed by an evening concert on the Relic Site. On the late morning of the 30th, the members of CASB delegation were joined by other guests for the opening ceremony. Daming Palace Relic Site is a unique experimentation in culture preservation which integrates preserving ancient relics with education, tourism and regional economic development.
